MOBILE, Ala. — The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS), the state’s only fully public boarding school, will hold informational sessions throughout October to introduce the school to bright students across the state.
Established in 1989, ASMS is now both school and home throughout the school year for approximately 250 students grade 10-12 each year.
There is no application fee, and no tuition, but there is a small yearly activity fee to cover non-academic and student-centered events and items like the yearbook, class trips, prom, winter formal, and Geekfest.
Though it is a school with high standards, and high outcomes—All ASMS students go to college and most receive merit-based scholarships—any student who is an independent, mature hard worker is welcome to apply.
“Many people ask, ‘Do I have to be a ‘genius’ to be accepted to ASMS?'” says the school’s FAQ. “Answer: Absolutely NOT! ASMS is made up of students who are intelligent and work hard for academic success.”
Students and parents interested in learning more about this unique school can attend one of the upcoming information sessions:
