Alabama radio personality, WJLX owner Brett Elmore passes away at 41

The Alabama broadcasting community is in mourning after the passing of a beloved Alabama broadcaster. Brett Elmore, owner and radio personality from YHN affiliate WJLX 101.5 in Walker County passed away unexpectedly late Monday evening.

In addition to WJLX in Jasper, which Elmore had owned since 2008, he was known for his work at radio stations in Birmingham and statewide on the syndicated BAMA Tailgate Show. According to colleagues, Elmore died from a massive heart attack at the age of 41.

Elmore made international headlines earlier this year when his 200-foot radio station tower was stolen. Due to its bizarre nature, the case received media coverage on a global scale. Police still haven’t located the tower or determined what happened in the case.

Walt Williams, YHN Network affiliate relations director and former Director of The Alabama Broadcasters Association, tells Yellowhammer News he is heart-broken by the passing of his longtime friend and Yellowhammer affiliate, Brett Elmore.

“Brett was a passionate local broadcaster in Jasper and in our state association. His station WJLX was enjoyed by many and always impactful in the community,” Williams said. “Brett worked in all aspects of the business from hosting his own show, calling games, and marketing. He understood the importance of being local and giving back. Brett will be missed by the broadcasting community in Alabama. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

Funeral arrangements have been announced by Collins-Burke Funeral Home.
