In the wake of unprecedented attacks by Iranian-backed terrorist organization Hamas, thousands of Israelis are dead and wounded with the death toll in Gaza expected to climb.
Alabama leaders have shared unequivocal support for Israel in the days since the “barbaric atrocities” began, in the words of Senate President Pro Tem Greg Reed.
“Israel has every right to respond with incredible force to defend itself from these barbaric atrocities. The United States and its allies must respond with unwavering support and overwhelming strength to these heinous assaults,” he said.

Reed (R-Jasper) related it to the faith shared among those appalled. “God’s Word tells us those who offer prayers and support to Israel, His chosen people, will also be blessed.”
Speaker of the Alabama House Nathaniel Ledbetter said Alabama’s support for Israel and its people is historic – but must be affirmed.
“For the past 80 years, Alabama has supported the nation of Israel, and we reaffirm our commitment today following the unprovoked surprise attacks launched by Palestinian Hamas militants,” Ledbetter said. “Alabamians continue to stand tall with our nation’s strongest and most loyal Middle Eastern ally, and our prayers of support go out to the Israeli military forces, the nation’s leaders, and all of those who lost family, friends, and neighbors to the senseless Palestinian violence.”

Ledbetter noted that the Legislature has passed many resolutions that secures the bond between Alabama and Israel and will continue to work to enshrine that relationship into law.
Alabama’s congressional representatives have lambasted the connection between Iran and Hamas, as well as President Biden’s policies. Last month, the administration authorized $6 billion in unfrozen sanctions be returned to Iran.
“The Biden Administration must change its position of pandering and appeasement towards Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism,” Reed said.
