Thursday, the Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) announced its 13th round of endorsements for candidates seeking election to the state legislature.
The round of endorsements include the federation’s candidates of preference who are seeking election to the Alabama House of Representatives. ALFA utilizes FarmPAC, the federation’s political action arm, in offering its endorsements of candidates seeking public office.
The following candidates hold an official endorsement from FarmPAC.
- Mark Shirey for House District 100
- Brock Colvin for House District 26
- Jennifer Fidler for House District 94
- Mike Kirkland for House District 23
Art Sessions, Mobile County Farmers Federation president, offered his praise of Shirey in announcing the endorsement.
“Dr. Shirey will be a great asset to the House of Representatives,” stated Sessions. “He will do an outstanding job representing the people and businesses of West Mobile.”
Marshall County Farmers Federation president Stanley Summers said Colvin would be a “strong voice” for industry in the lower chamber.
“Brock Colvin will be a strong voice for business and for agriculture in the Legislature,” advised Sumners. “He will be a great leader who represents conservative ideals, so we support him whole-heartedly.”
Hope Cassebaum, president of the Baldwin County Farmers Federation, hailed Fidler for her more than two-decades-long service in local government.
“Jennifer Fidler is a hard worker with an extensive 25-year background in local government,” said Cassebaum. “She knows the importance of agriculture to our area and will represent us well in Montgomery.”
Jackson County Farmers Federation president Phillip Thompson praised Kirkland as being a “solid conservative.”
“Mike Kirkland is a solid conservative contender for this legislative seat,” stated Thompson. “He is a strong leader in our community and will be in the Legislature as well.”
In October, ALFA announced its first and second strings of legislative endorsements, followed by its third, fourth and fifth rounds of endorsements in November. The federation in December released its sixth, seventh and eighth rounds of endorsements. ALFA in January made public its ninth and 10th strings of legislative endorsements, followed by its 11th and 12th rounds last month.
In September of last year, ALFA officially endorsed its preferred slate of candidates seeking election to federal and statewide offices.
The primary election will take place on May 24, 2022.
