Alabama Farmers Federation endorses Stan Cooke for state auditor

FarmPAC, the political arm of the Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) announced its endorsement of Stan Cooke in the state auditor Republican primary runoff election on Tuesday.

In a statement announcing the endorsement, ALFA external affairs director Matthew Durdin made mention of the state auditor’s responsibility of appointing a member to county boards of registrars.

“Stan Cooke is a man of faith who will stand up for what is right and demand accountability in our government,” said Durdin. “He understands our issues and knows how important the appointment of the Board of Registrars is to our organization and its 340,000 member families. We are pleased to announce our support and encourage others across the state to support Stan Cooke in the State Auditor race.”

In touting the endorsement, Cooke hailed farmers as the “backbone” of the state’s economy and pledged to promote efficiency in government as state auditor.

“Farming is the No. 1 industry in our state — a $70 billion industry. Farmers are hardworking men and women and are the backbone of our economy,” noted Cooke. “Just like families, government must live within its means. Cutting wasteful spending, demanding accountability and integrity in our government is my priority. As Auditor, I will make sure government runs as efficiently as possible.”

Cooke is the founder of Abraham’s Promise, an international Christian mission organization that supports charitable programs in Israel, as well as educational and humanitarian programs in the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, and Ecuador.

The 35-year evangelist holds degrees from Lee University, The Jewish-Christian Institute and the University of Alabama at Birmingham/University of Alabama’s dual degree program.

Cooke will face State Rep. Andrew Sorrell (R-Muscle Shoals) in the June 21 GOP primary runoff election to determine who will replace the term-limited State Auditor Jim Zeigler.
