Three Alabama counties are in the top ten in the country for most monetary damage incurred by tornadoes, according to Weather DB. The site, owned by Graphiq, compiled data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Severe Weather Data Inventory (SWDI), which adjusts damage to inflation.

The highest ranked on the list was Tuscaloosa County at number three, followed by Jefferson and Limestone county at numbers four and five respectively. Graphiq created interactive charts for each of the top ten counties depicting the number of casualties and amount of monetary damage.

Number 5: Limestone County

After 45 tornadoes, Limestone County has incurred $1.06 billion in damages and suffered 6 deaths. The total injuries over that span are 120 and the worst single tornado occurred on the infamous day of April 27, 2011.

Number 4: Jefferson County

Jefferson County has experienced slightly fewer tornadoes – 41 – than Limestone, but has racked up slightly more in damages ($1.07 billion). 56 people in the central Alabama county have died and 1,063 have been injured. Again, Jefferson’s worst occurrence was on April 27, 2011.

Number 3: Tuscaloosa County

Tuscaloosa has had 48 tornadoes touch down that have caused a whopping $1.64 billion in damages. 67 people have died and 977 more have been injured. Needless to say, 4/27/11 was also Tuscaloosa’s single worst tornado day in history.

The number one overall county was Cleveland, Oklahoma. The entire top ten list can be seen on WHNT 19’s website here.
