Alabama’s community colleges reached a milestone this fall, enrolling more than 100,000 individual students for the first time since 2010.

Alabama Community College System Vice Chancellor of Student Success Neil Scott shared the news during the system’s Oct. 14 Board of Trustees meeting in Montgomery. As of Oct. 13, enrollment stood at 100,262 individual students.

“Our total unduplicated headcount across the community college system is 100,262 as of yesterday,” Scott said.

That figure counts each student once, including those taking classes at more than one community college. When students were counted at each college where they enrolled, the combined total across the system’s 24 colleges reached 100,718.

The combined count was up 3,421 students, or 3.5%, over final fall 2025 figures.

“Sixteen of our colleges are ahead in headcount, and these students are enrolled in over 836,000 credit hours,” Scott said. “That’s a 3% increase over the final fall 2025 number.”

The credit-hour total was the system’s highest for a fall semester since 2013.

Scott also gave credit to the people helping students along the way. He thanked college presidents, faculty and staff for their work and Chancellor Jimmy Baker for his leadership in helping the system reach the milestone.

The enrollment figures remained preliminary.

“We usually capture that final fall number sometime in the month of November, but we are really excited to be over the 100,000 mark for the first time in quite some time,” Scott said.
