Alabama baseball starts conference play in home series against Tennessee

The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team will be getting SEC play started on the diamond this weekend with a home series against rival Tennessee. Alabama may very well have the best team it has had in years under new head coach Rob Vaughn.

The team is already off to a 15-2 start, falling only in standalone games to Dallas Baptist on March 3 and Southern Miss this week.

According to D1Baseball, Alabama is currently ranked No. 14 in the nation after its hot start.

Infielder Gage Miller, a transfer from Bishop State Community College in Mobile, is leading the way for the Tide offense thus far with a team-high 8 home runs and 24 RBIs along with a .478 batting average.

Miller is riding a 16-game hitting streak headed into the weekend against Tennessee.

Ole Miss transfer TJ McCants has been sensational as well with 26 hits, 23 RBIs and six home runs. He is currently on an impressive 17-game hitting streak going into the weekend.

Getting it done on the mound is junior RHP Ben Hess, who will start on Friday against the Vols. Hess has limited opposing batters to a .172 average along with 28 strikeouts.

Louisville transfer Greg Farone has also been phenomenal with a 1.72 ERA in over 15 innings pitched. Tennessee enters the series ranked No. 5 in the nation and has only lost one game sitting at 17-1.

It should be a phenomenal weekend of baseball in Tuscaloosa.
