Alabama Associated General Contractors endorse Katie Britt for U.S. Senate, Dale Strong in AL-5 race

Tuesday, the Alabama Associated General Contractors (AGC) announced its preferred Republican candidates in the Yellowhammer State’s two federal races.

The association has given its endorsement in the U.S. Senate race to former Business Council of Alabama CEO Katie Britt, who is in the GOP primary runoff with U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville).

For Alabama’s open fifth congressional district seat, Madison County Commission chairman Dale Strong has landed the association’s support over former Huntsville City Schools superintendent Casey Wardynski.

Britt and Strong are the leading contenders in their respective federal races, recently-conducted polling shows.

According to a release, Alabama AGC actively supports candidates for public office that demonstrate an understanding of the construction industry and will serve to positively impact economic growth and infrastructure development efforts.

In announcing the endorsements, Alabama AGC CEO Billy Norrell highlighted the outstanding issues facing the construction industry.

“Over the past two years, when so many other businesses have been forced to close their doors or layoff employees, the construction industry has continued to grow, accounting for 3.6% of state’s GDP ($8.4 billion) and employing nearly 100,000 individuals last year,” stated Norrell.

“However, many firms are also struggling because of a shortage of skilled workers and delays in obtaining materials,” he added. “More than ever, we need elected officials who recognize these problems and will work with industry leaders in developing lasting solutions.”

Alabama AGC advised that it endorses candidates that support investments and incentives for infrastructure enhancement, promote the expansion of apprenticeship and workforce development programs, and will advocate for pro-business tax and labor policies.

In accepting Alabama AGC’s endorsement, Britt conveyed her support for the state’s general contractors and stated her intentions to champion economic growth initiatives as Alabama’s junior senator.

“I am excited to have the endorsement of the Alabama Associated General Contractors,” said Britt. “Our state’s tremendous builders personify the hard work, skill and innovation that defines Alabama. As Alabama’s Senator, I will fight to grow good-paying jobs and 21st century opportunity for all Alabamians, regardless of their zip code. Our campaign’s momentum is surging ahead of June 21 because people across Alabama know that I will always defend our Christian conservative values and advance the America First agenda. The future of our state is on the ballot, and, together, we will preserve the American Dream for our children and our children’s children.”

Strong sang the praises of Alabama AGC and spoke to successful economic development efforts that he asserted had served to benefit the North Alabama region.

“I am proud to be endorsed by the Alabama AGC,” stated Strong. “I have worked closely with the AGC and they understand that when we land a $2.3 Billion Mazda-Toyota plant or fund a $400M local road program that everyone benefits. I look forward to working with them to continue building north Alabama.”

The primary runoff election will take place on June 21.
