Aden Holloway’s final marijuana charge dismissed, clearing path for return to Alabama basketball

Alabama Crimson Tide basketball star Aden Holloway, who was arrested back in March on first-degree marijuana possession charges which ultimately caused him to be suspended and miss the NCAA Tournament, has had charges against him dismissed.

Holloway entered into a second-chance program that included community service, drug and alcohol screenings, and a $1,300 payment, and now that he has completed the program, the charges against him have been dropped.

According to AL.com, the charge that was dismissed on September 17 — first-degree possession of marijuana — was the last remaining of the four criminal charges. The other three were dismissed in May at the time he entered the second-chance program.

“While part of the process, he still has a way to go to satisfy the requirements set by the court, the University and the program,” Alabama director of athletics Greg Byrne said in July after Holloway returned to practicing with the team.

Holloway has not been formally announced as being back on the team, although it does seem things are trending that way.

He is one of the best players on the team, last season averaging 16.8 points per game as well as just under three rebounds and four assists while shooting better than 43 percent from the three-point line. If he does indeed make his return to the squad, it’s a massive boost for Nate Oats and Alabama’s hopes of returning to the Final Four in 2026-27.
