7. Four Proud Boys were convicted for attempting to prevent the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6. The media declares them to be former President Donald Trump’s allies (or connected to allies of Trump) because all issues are about how they connect to Donald Trump – this one is the one that surely gets Trump.
6. President Joe Biden’s woes continue to grow as a new e-mail has been revealed between his campaign and people who signed the infamous “intelligence community” letter declaring the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian misinformation. Biden would go on to use this letter to deflect criticism over the allegations the laptop raised and media/social media companies would bury the story because of it.
5. Bud Light’s meltdown continues as the CEO of Anheuser-Busch finally disavows Dylan Mulvaney’s association with the company by blaming outside partners. This is an excellent first step to finally address the issue but this is not over, sales are down 26%, investors are angry, distributors are pissed, and Bud Light is still being shunned.
4. President Joe Biden is sending 1,500 National Guard soldiers to the border but U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) says that is not enough as 7-10 million illegal immigrants have already come across the border. Tuberville says 15,000 are needed to stop those still coming in, “probably need to send 15,000 down there to block people from coming across the border. We better get control of it because if we don’t we’re going to lose our country as we know it.”
3. The $8.8 billion Education Trust Fund budget passes the Alabama State Senate. Included in the bill are a $2.8 billion surplus, $100 (not $400) tax rebates, a 2% pay raise for teachers, $100 million for a prison, $30 million-ish for a loan for Birmingham -Southern, with no money for World Games, airports, Port of Alabama, water parks, or school choice.
2. Pretty good economic news for the state of Alabama with multiple state metros finding their unemployment rates lower than anywhere else in the country. Huntsville and Decatur lead with 1.6% unemployment rate (tied with Rapid City S.D.) and Birmingham had the lowest unemployment rate for metros over 1 million at 1.8%.
1. Confusingly, State Rep. Juandalynn Givan (D-Birmingham) spent her time speaking against a parents’ rights bill referring to State Rep. Kenneth Paschal (R-Pelham) as a n-word in the eyes of his white caucus mates. Givan responded to criticism by rambling further, “So if they interpreted that song the way they did, then they should be apologetic themselves, because it’s a matter of interpretation. So, the question today I leave you with is, how did they interpret it?”
