7 Things: Mr. Woodfin goes to D.C.; Ainsworth says no more refugee resettlement; Trump rolls into Alabama; and more …

7. Miles College and Birmingham-Southern College have signed a purchase agreement for BSC’s 192-acre campus, following unanimous approval from both Boards of Trustees. This acquisition will expand the impact of Miles, an HBCU, and aligns with BSC’s mission of educating students for lives of service, benefiting the surrounding communities.

6. Alan Eugene Miller got very sleepy and then did not wake up as he was the second person executed by Alabama using nitrogen hypoxia, following a failed attempt in 2022 when officials struggled to find a vein for lethal injection. Convicted of killing three of his former coworkers at two separate businesses in 1999, his attorneys argued he was not competent to stand trial, but the court rejected that and sentenced him to death in 2000.

5. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) called for Vice President Kamala Harris to drop out of the presidential race, labeling her the “first ever AI presidential candidate,” claiming her campaign is controlled by social media and external influences. He argued that billions of dollars is being spent to ensure Harris’s success, as she is the candidate “they can control.”

4. Previously, former President Donald Trump declared that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was the “greatest salesman on Earth” for his ability to show up in the U.S. and leave with more tax dollars, which his latest $8 billion haul proves. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) criticized the Biden administration for its ongoing support of Ukraine, questioning the lack of clear objectives and the use of American taxpayer dollars and rightly warned that escalating the conflict by enabling Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russia risks provoking nuclear war and urged for immediate peace negotiations.

3. Former President Donald Trump is headed to Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia game in Tuscaloosa, a game with championship and presidential election implications. When Alabama businessman Ric Mayers invited Trump to the game, part of his role was arranging tickets and fulfilling Trump’s food preferences. True to his love of fast food, Trump requested two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches from McDonald’s, stadium hotdogs, Domino’s pizza, and Diet Coke for his gameday meal; no word if Kamala Harris will pretend to serve the food.

2. Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth has publicly called for the halt of the Cuba-Haiti-Nicaragua-Venezuela (CHNV) Parole Program, citing concerns about its compliance with U.S. immigration policy and potential exploitation of the system that is finding multiple Alabama cities’ services being stressed with Haitian immigrants. During a recent meeting, Ainsworth emphasized the need for transparency regarding the program’s sponsors and financial aspects, while also pledging to oppose any federal assistance that could promote Haitian resettlement in Alabama.

1. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin attended a White House ceremony where President Joe Biden signed an executive order addressing gun violence, including the formation of a task force to assess the threat of machine gun conversion devices. Woodfin’s visit follows a mass shooting in Birmingham’s Five Points district that allegedly involved a gun equipped with a Glock switch, which Woodfin focused on to distract citizens from his years of leadership failures when it comes to crime.
