7 Things: Kamala picks liberal Walz but the retcon is on; lies about Alabama’s IVF non-issues continue; and more …

7. Speculation abounds regarding where Iran or its proxies will strike as retaliation for Israel’s recent assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah deputy Fuad Shukr, and more after an attack on a soccer field that killed Israeli children. One particular possibility warranting extended consideration: Iran might aim to damage military bases in the narrow strip of land between the West Bank and Gaza, hoping to incite revolt and create logistical obstacles for Israel, while also leveraging tensions with Hezbollah and other proxies to further strain Israeli defenses.

6. Attorney General Steve Marshall supports a nationwide TikTok ban if its Chinese-government owners don’t sell the company. He’s joining 21 attorneys general in urging the D.C. Court of Appeals to uphold the divest-or-ban legislation citing national security and privacy concerns, emphasizing that TikTok’s data collection poses a threat due to its accessibility to the Chinese Communist Party. The law, passed by Congress with significant support, bans TikTok unless ByteDance, its parent company, sells its stake.

5. The Poarch Band of Creek Indians is seeking clearer federal recognition and a bill before Congress, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile), aims to ensure the Poarch Creeks achieve parity with other federally recognized tribes. Moore says that fear this bill could expand gambling is false. The Poarch Band of Creek Indians Land Act is co-sponsored by other Alabama U.S. Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham), Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), and Dale Strong (R-Monrovia), and seeks to update the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, granting Poarch Creeks the same status as other tribes.

4. Alabama’s second nitrogen gas execution will proceed after death row inmate Alan Miller agreed to drop further litigation against the state in a settlement. A federal judge dismissed Miller’s case against Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, allowing the execution to be scheduled Sept. 26 or 27. Miller raised concerns about the nitrogen gas method, referencing Kenneth Smith’s January execution, but the settlement was deemed a victory for the method’s implementation despite Miller’s attorney disputing claims about its constitutionality.

3. Because the Democrats’ vice presidential candidate said a dumb thing about in-vitro fertilization, every media outlet in the world is required to imply that Alabama, Republicans and U.S. Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) have a problem with IVF when he actually co-sponsored, with Alabama U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), the IVF Protection Act which would deny Medicaid funds to states who ended IVF. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz criticized the Alabama Supreme Court’s controversial IVF ruling, which Alabama Republicans instantly fixed, sharing his personal connection to fertility treatments suggesting Republicans in general are against the procedure despite that not being true.

2. Vice President Kamala Harris has made her choice for her VP, with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz getting the nod. The media narrative is that Walz is a “folksy” “Midwesterner” “coach” who “cares” about people, is moderate, and still makes the left-wing of the base happy. Walz was selected over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and some commentators argue that Walz’s selection was a nod the “keffiyeh-clad radicals” and others who warned against Shapiro because of his Jewish faith.

1. Democrat vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has a record that will quickly be defined by his opponents and his supporters, he is a typical Democrat with a record that will need to be explained and massaged to wear they can sell him as a moderate even though his actions tell another story. Walz’ positions on immigration, taxes, COVID, crime, riots, transgender issues, post-birth abortion, tampons in the boys room, stolen valor war, and other issues will be unpopular if his opponents can cut through the media smokescreen.
