7 Things: Alabama not looking to boot Biden off ballot; stalling Alabama death row murderer may be running out of time; and more …

7. An Alabama Crimson Tide football player has been arrested for a sex crime after allegedly knowingly transmitting a sexually transmitted disease. Offensive lineman Elijah Pritchett was arrested Wednesday night and charged with a Class C misdemeanor. He faces three months in jail or fines of up to $500, if convicted, and his status on the team is unknown.

6. Gift cards are not only an impersonal Christmas gift for people you don’t care about and too many people don’t even use them, they are also very susceptible to online scammers. Some 60% of traffic to gift card websites are scammers working to drain the cards before they are redeemed. Next time, just put 50 bucks in a card and tell the person you were too disinterested in thinking about a gift for them.

5. After ignoring protests at Supreme Court justices’ houses before and after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the Biden administration is now worried about the “violent rhetoric” being directed at the Colorado Supreme Court justices who have attempted to bar former President Donald Trump from the state’s ballot in 2024.

4. It was finally decided that the signs being placed at Decatur City Hall in support of the protest movement demanding firings, arrests, and conviction of police officers who shot Stephen Perkins after an interaction at his home were inappropriate by Mayor Tab Bowling. Bowling was reluctant to lead his city and act to remove the signs until signs supporting the police we placed on the site, leading the mayor to finally act after he was confronted by supporters of Stephen Perkins who were upset other opinions were shared. Then, the protestors tore down the other signs in front of the mayor.

3. The Freedom From Religion Foundation is sending their sad little press releases to Alabama again. This time they are angry that local churches have been asked to donate some food/drinks for two wrestling teams in Etowah County and a give a devotional, as well. The Wisconsin group exists to do just this and State Sen. Greg Reed (R-Jasper) rightly dismisses the group’s concerns, “This week we are celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him goes all the praise and all the glory. That should be our focus, and it should not be interrupted by out-of-state groups trying to push faith out of our lives and the lives of our children.”

2. A federal judge is preparing to decide if the long-awaited second execution attempt on convicted murder-for-hire Alabama death row inmate Kenneth Eugene Smith can go on using nitrogen hypoxia. The main issue is, comically, whether or not his spiritual advisor can properly minister to the convict who was paid by a pastor to kill his wife.

1. Even though the Colorado decision to kick Trump off the ballot will fall very quickly, that will not stop speculation that some Republicans want to kick President Joe Biden off the ballot even though Republicans should be giddy at the notion that Biden will be the nominee in November 2024. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has dismissed this idea and the only elected Republican who has suggested this is Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick but the media will frame all utterances by Republicans as an attempted tit-for-tat.
