7. A new gambling bill could be voted on in the Alabama State Senate next week, but no one really seems to think the State House backed plans will get a vote. A bill that would allow a lottery and protect some current gambling entities without expanding to casino gambling and sports betting is likely to get a vote in the he Senate Tourism Committee.
6. U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) will deliver the Republicans’ State of the Union response which will further the speculation that she is on the rise and could be a vice presidential contender. This is a good opportunity for Britt to introduce herself to a nation and media that may not know her and allow her to highlight some positives about Alabama as well.
5. A recent poll from Auburn University at Montgomery shows a very tight race for the coastal First Congressional district between U.S. Reps. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) and Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) The numbers show Carl with a 43-35 lead over Moore among likely Republican voters but, with 22% undecided, it is anyone’s race.

3. President Donald Trump’s long-planned trip to the southern U.S. border was used to call for tough immigration policies, a sharp contrast with his opponent, President Joe Biden. While being supported by Border Patrol agents, Trump hammered home warnings about migrant crime from the border, violence involving illegal immigrants, and border security.
2. In response to former President Donald Trump’s visit to the border, President Joe Biden and his White House referred to illegal immigrants as “newcomers” which hardly screams he will be tough on the border ever. Biden is less interested in enforcement and is more interested in addressing the humanitarian aspect of the border crisis, including the treatment of migrants, and blaming Republicans.

The bill aims to shield these clinics from legal consequences resulting from the ruling, highlighting broader debates over reproductive rights and embryo status.
