In anticipation of severe winter weather, the Alabama National Guard activated approximately 350 guardsmen to assist local first responders and state support agencies.
ALNG announced that six of its multi-functional Mobility Support Teams (MST) will operate out of seven regional facilities, covering the entire northern portion of the state as far south as Birmingham. The Guard emphasized that while they always hope their services are not needed, they are consistently prepared for such situations.
Maj. Gen. David Pritchett, Alabama National Guard Adjutant General, stated that the organization regularly trains for such events, and many officers and non-commissioned officers have prior experience with similar missions. He affirmed the Guard’s readiness to support communities and partner agencies in need.
The teams are equipped to perform tasks such as route reconnaissance, right-of-way clearance, transportation of critical resources, search and rescue, and other key support operations.
