Young leads AL01 field in cash on hand, Byrne has raised the most money

According to the most recent FEC reports, Republican Dean Young leads the current field of First Congressional District candidates with $133,087 in cash on hand. However, $129,500 of that is from loans he has personally contributed to his own campaign.

Bradley Byrne leads the field in total dollars raised at $75,882.

Quin Hillyer had a strong fundraising period, raking in $62,779, leaning heavily on his relationships with national Republican figures and also garnering $15,000 from Citizens United Political Victory Fund, the political action committee of conservative group Citizens United.

Several of the candidates, including Wells Griffith, did not meet the filing threshold. However, Republican National Committeeman Henry Barbour, nephew of former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, said in an email to the RNC that he was donating $1,000 to Griffith’s campaign, and implored his fellow RNC members to do the same, or more.

Fincher remains the dark horse in the race, pulling in $35,081 in donations, and also loaning his campaign $10,000 — a respectable showing for the state representative.

Candidates Randy Davis, Daniel Dyas and Wells Griffith did not file.
