Woman accused of stealing from high school football team maintains her innocence

The Prattville Police Department reported that $30,000 was allegedly stolen from the Marbury Football Booster Club account. Officials with the club alerted police shortly after making the discovery.

According to law enforcement, Melanie Morrison, who was the club’s treasurer at the time, transferred the money to her account over two years. Allegedly, this transfer took place through several different transactions.

Melanie Morrison serves as the head of the Montessori School at Hampstead in Montgomery. WSFA 12 spoke with Morrison’s attorney. He stated that she maintains her innocence and is fully committed to cooperating with authorities to resolve this matter.

The Montessori School issued a statement supporting Morrison.

“The Montessori School at Hampstead Board of Directors, staff, and families have every confidence in our Head of School, Melanie Morrison. Since joining MSH in 2018, Melanie has led with steadfast integrity and honesty. The Board has been aware of the allegations and finds no reason to question her innocence or ability to continue leading at MSH where she has built a safe and nurturing environment that is preparing our children for productive and fulfilling lives.”

Morrison has been charged with first-degree theft of property. She turned herself into the Prattville Police Department on Monday and has been released on bond.
