Watch: Sumter County charter school students thank Richard Shelby for supporting their dreams

In an inspirational video posted this week by University Charter School (UCS) in Livingston, students can be seen thanking Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) for supporting their dreams.

The caption accompanying the video reads, “UCS would like to say ‘THANK YOU’ to Senator Shelby for his support of our DREAMS! We are very grateful and honored to be a recipient of the USDOE Developer Grant!”

This comes after Shelby announced in late September that the public charter school, which is operated by the University of West Alabama in Sumter County, had received a large, five-year grant from the United States Department of Education.

The video opens with two students saying, “Hi, Senator Shelby. We’d like to thank you for funding our dreams.”

The camera then pans to a large group of students, in unison, exclaiming, “Thank you!”

Perhaps the most powerful part of the video comes next, as clip after clip shows individual students holding up posters with their “dreams.”

In a Facebook post, Shelby responded to the video, reaffirming his support for the school and its students.

“Thank you to University Charter School for this great video! Proud that this school gives students in West Alabama the opportunity to excel academically while also building character and responsibility. The five-year education grant funding will help ensure an environment that inspires students to learn and grow,” Shelby said.
