As captured by cable news networks, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions left the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the last time Wednesday evening after he complied with President Donald Trump’s request for his resignation earlier in the day.
In an emotional scene, Sessions emerged from the building in Washington, D.C., surrounded by senior staff members. To the resounding applause of dozens of DOJ employees and onlookers, Sessions waved while saying, “Thank you all.”
He then shook the hands of a few of his top staffers and DOJ officials, including Solicitor General Noel Francisco and, last, now-Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, who was Sessions’ chief of staff.
