Alabama fan killed by two LSU fans in Saturday night bar fight

As reported by WBRZ, a University of Alabama football fan was killed after two LSU fans beat him in a bar fight after the Crimson Tide’s Saturday night victory in Death Valley.

Robert Bowers, a 46-year-old Louisiana resident who was a “devout Alabama football fan,” passed away in a hospital on Tuesday from the injuries he sustained Saturday at the Ponchatoula Pub in Tangipahoa Parish, which is located to the southeast of Baton Rouge.

Friends and family had reportedly been trying to rally support for Bowers online using #rolltideforrobert as the man fought to stay alive, soliciting donations to help pay for his medical expenses.

A family member told WBRZ that Bowers was an adamant fan of UA football and had gone out to watch the big game Saturday night.

“They believe the attack was motivated by Bowers’ fandom,” the outlet said.

The Advocate added that Police Chief Bry Layrisson believes that the violent altercation began as an argument over the football game, though witnesses could not say for certain what the fight was about.

Two men, 27-year-old Azia Crockett and 24-year-old Ryan Anthony, have been arrested and booked on felony manslaughter charges.
