Vance appointed chairman of Financial Services Committee

HouseHouse Speaker Mike Hubbard announced on Monday that he has appointed Rep. Lesley Vance, R-Phenix City, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

“Rep. Vance possesses a deep knowledge of banking issues and other fiscal matters that are vital to this committee, and he has set himself apart as a leader within the body,” Hubbard said in a statement. “I trust that he will render a great service to the citizens of Alabama in this post.”

Vance has served as vice chairman of the committee for the past three years, and served as chairman during a previous legislative quadrennium.

He recently assumed the role from Rep. Steve Clouse, R-Ozark, who was named head of the House Ways and Means General Fund Budget panel.

The Financial Service Committee handles issues affecting banking, lending, and other finance-related industries in the state.

“The House Financial Service Committee routinely considers important legislation that impacts virtually every family in Alabama in some manner or another,” Vance said. “I appreciate the confidence that Speaker Hubbard has displayed with my appointment, and the members of our committee will work hard to faithfully represent the interests of the constituents we serve.”

The appointment will take effect immediately.

Vance was elected to the House in 1994, and represents District 80, which covers portions of Lee and Russell counties. Vance has also served as county coroner and county commissioner in Russell County.
