University of Alabama approves new student well-being hub and 10 new pickleball courts

The University of Alabama System board of trustees has unanimously approved several new construction projects for the Tuscaloosa campus earlier this month, but one of the major developments is the new student well-being hub.

Located on the Bryce portion of campus just South of Kilgore lane, the massive 82,500-square foot space is going to cost nearly $60 million. The building, which is a division of student life, will house a new counseling center, collegiate recovery and intervention services, health Promotion and wellness, and the Women and Gender Resource Center.

In addition to the expansion of student life, perhaps one of the more significant developments in all of the recent approvals is an addition to the Parker-Haun Tennis facility at 550 Peter Bryce Boulevard.

Up to 10 new pickleball courts are going to be added with growing demand for spaces to play the popular, tennis-like sport. The pickleball portion is still in the programming and fundraising phase as opposed to the student well-being hub building which is already in construction, but with board approval there is optimism it is going to begin construction in the very near future.
