The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers and the University of South Alabama Jaguars won their respective games on Thursday night as the 2020 college football season kicked off for the FBS — the NCAA’s top level of competition for the sport.
UAB played at home versus Central Arkansas, a FCS school that had already won its first game of the season. The Blazers triumphed in a 45-35 battle.
Meanwhile, South Alabama beat Southern Mississippi 32-21 in a non-conference FBS matchup played in Hattiesburg, MS. The Jaguars are members of the Sunbelt Conference, while Southern Miss belongs to Conference USA.
South Alabama is set to face Tulane in Mobile on September 12. This will be the first ever game played at the Jaguars’ new Hancock Whitney Stadium.
UAB is next scheduled to play in southern Florida at Miami on September 10.
The Jaguars and Blazers also have an upcoming contest against each other set for September 24 at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
