U.S. Reps. Robert Aderholt, Terri Sewell place friendly wager with Georgia counterparts on SEC Championship

Bragging rights are on the line for two Alabama members of Congress in the SEC Championship Game between the University of Alabama and University of Georgia.

U.S. Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) and Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) on Thursday announced a friendly wager with U.S. Reps. David Scott (D-GA) and Jody Hice (R-GA) on which team will emerge as the conference champion.

The two Yellowhammer State representatives split the city of Tuscaloosa’s constituencies between Alabama’s fourth and seventh congressional districts.

Should the third-ranked Crimson Tide upset the top-ranked Bulldogs, Aderholt and Sewell will be treated to Georgia peach preserves, fresh biscuits and pecan pie from Atlanta’s iconic Mary’s Tea Room, along with peanut brittle and a case of Coca-Cola products of their choice courtesy of Scott and Hice.

In the event that Georgia defeats Alabama, Scott and Hice will enjoy a lunch of Alabama-smoked barbecue, potato pies and a Bama in a Box shipment of Alabama-made products complementary of Aderholt and Sewell.

Coach Nick Saban’s squad is more than a touchdown underdog to Georgia, marking the first time Alabama has not been favored to win a game since 2015. However, the last time it was favored to lose came against the Bulldogs, a game the Crimson Tide won in overwhelming fashion.

Alabama has won its last six matchups against Georgia dating back to 2008. Avid Tide fans Aderholt and Sewell hope this winning streak continues.

The Crimson Tide will face off against the Bulldogs in Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the SEC Championship on Saturday, December 4, at 3:00 p.m. CT.
