U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer slams House Democrats’ passage of $3.5T budget plan — ‘massive tax and spend bill’

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover), chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, took exception to House Democrats’ passage of a budget resolution which paves the way for a $3.5 trillion spending package.

The framework, which was passed along party lines, includes an array of progressive measures that would greatly expand climate and welfare-related programs.

Palmer accused House Democrats of supporting the multi-trillion-dollar budget blueprint out of political expediency rather than what is in the fiscal interests of the nation.

“Once again, I am disappointed, but not surprised, that there is not one single Democrat who values the future of America above their own political future,” said Palmer. “There were nine Democrat members who signed a letter pledging that they would not vote for the $3.5 trillion dollar budget deal. But when the pressure was put on them, they violated their own pledge and voted for the bill.”

He added, “What is even more disturbing is the fact that many of us have been working to rescue Americans and Afghan allies from being held hostage or murdered by the Taliban. Yet Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrat leaders in the House made passing a massive tax and spend bill their top priority.”

Palmer believes House Democrats’ latest spending proposal could have inflationary repercussions, which he says would have a negative impact on working-class Americans.

“The Democrats made the $3.5 trillion dollar bill their top priority,” Palmer continued. “This bill is representative of the blatant disregard for the lives of thousands of Americans and Afghan allies still trapped because of the Biden surrender. It is also representative of the Democrats’ careless attitude toward the record jump in inflation that is doing so much harm to our lower income families and senior citizens. This bill will only further the crushing burden of debt and economic destruction that will do immeasurable harm to America’s future.”

Congressional Democrats, to the ire of their Republican colleagues, have put forth multiple proposals which would dramatically increase government spending to achieve signature policy goals of President Joe Biden’s agenda.
