U.S. Rep. Carl says race, gender determining everything being passed in Congress — ‘That’s the most racist bunch of people that I serve with in Washington’

As so-called “wokeism” has become a dominant theme in American politics, U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) warns it is also dictating the direction of Congress, which he said was not allowing for attention to other more important challenges the nation faces.

During an interview with Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” the AL-01 congressman argued the focus ought to be on shoring up America’s energy independence and preparing for the threat of Mainland China.

However, Carl said instead, the focus of Capitol Hill has turned to “gender and race.”

“In 2022, you’re going to see gas prices and petroleum prices through the roof,” he said. “We’ve got to get the petroleum industry, and we’ve got to stay free, free from foreign oil companies. We have got to take the security of this country back. China is controlling — and there are things we can’t talk about — China is in such control of this country, it is scary. This administration is playing right into their hands, whether it is deliberate or not, I don’t know. But they’re playing right into the Chinese’s hands. We have to stop that. We have to turn that around. Our first priority needs to be securing this country, securing our resources — instead of just throwing up our arms and trying to act like a one-world country. We’re not. We’re the United States. We’re very different. We want to be different. We’re proud to be different. So, those are some of the things we’ve got to immediately do in my mind.”

“We’ve got to get this country more thinking about Americans and less thinking about a race,” Carl continued. “I mean, we’re more focused on race and gender than we are being Americans. Come on, think about that for just a second.”

“Race and gender is determining everything we’re passing in Washington,” he explained. “That’s where the danger is at.”

The Mobile Republican called out some of his colleagues that allow race to be their own concern, which he indicated demonstrated a strong presence of racism within Congress.

“The people in America don’t scare me,” Carl added. “The government scares me — what the government can do and wants to do. I mean, that’s the most racist bunch of people that I serve with in Washington I have ever witnessed in my life. I thought I understood racism until I came and joined Congress. I live it. I see it. The people don’t. We the people — we’re strong. We’re Americans. We will come together. Just give us a chance to compare our differences and understand that our differences are actually our strength. There is strength in being different because where you’re weak, I’m strong, and vice versa. But the government is what scares me, not the people, because we’re all the same. We all want to feed our families. We all want to live in comfort. We want a free country. We want [Second Amendment] rights. We want freedom of speech. We want all that stuff. When you’ve got government officials like AOC and Bernie Sanders just stirring it up, trying to point out we’re different — that’s wrong. They say they want equality, and it doesn’t work that way. We are a society that is built on, if I get out and work harder than you do, I make more money. That’s the way it works. I don’t want your free money.”
