U.S. Rep. Barry Moore slams Democrats for Afghanistan ‘hypocrisy’ – ‘they’re arming terrorists, defunding police’

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) on Sunday took to social media to point to what he sees as hypocrisy on the part of the Democratic Party as progressives advocate for gun control measures domestically while a cache of equipment and weaponry has fallen into the hands of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

According to reporting by The Times, the U.S. Government Accounting Office (GAO) estimates that the Taliban now has in possession in excess of 64,000 machine guns and over 350,000 “assault rifles.”

“The gungrabbing Democrats who fanatically demand your [Second Amendment] rights must be abolished handed over hundreds of thousands of arms, including more than 64,000 fully automatic machine guns, to radical Islamists,” Moore tweeted.

Moore continued in a statement, “And while they’re busy arming another nation’s domestic terrorists, back home they’re defunding the police that protect you, your family, and your community. Folks, don’t buy what these Democrats are selling. Their hypocritical power play is dangerous, shameful, and unconstitutional, and we can’t fall for it!”

Along with the hundreds of thousands of firearms left to the Taliban are a number of armored vehicles, artillery pieces and other American-made equipment. The Times also reports that according to the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction (SIGAR), over 100 helicopters and fixed wing aircraft are included in the massive arsenal left behind in the war-torn country.

Republican members of Alabama’s congressional delegation continue to question the Biden administration’s handling of the pulling U.S. forces from Afghanistan, citing the decision to withdraw security personnel prior to ensuring the successful evacuation of American citizens and U.S. military equipment.
