As U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer plans to retire following the end of the court’s current term, President Joe Biden will soon have the opportunity to nominate his first jurist to the high court.
The present six to three conservative majority on the bench will remain under the same ideological makeup as Biden is likely to nominate a justice in the mold of the court’s liberal jurists.
However, with a soon-to-be vacancy on the Supreme Court, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) suggested that the president has an opportunity to fulfill his campaign pledge to unite the country and heal political divisions, a goal Moore asserted Biden had yet to accomplish.
“During the twelve months they have had total control of the House, Senate, and White House, Washington Democrats have been hellbent on pushing as far to the Left as possible while ignoring the border, economic, inflation, labor, crime, and pandemic crises plaguing Americans,” stated Moore.
According to the South Alabama congressman, Biden nominating a “mainstream” justice to the high court would be a blow to the majority party’s progressive base, which Moore indicated has assumed great political power under the current administration.
“With the retirement of Justice Breyer, President Biden has a unique and historic opportunity to finally take a step towards living up to his campaign promises of unity and responsible governance by nominating a mainstream jurist who will adhere to the Constitution, not a political party,” added Moore. “I sincerely hope that after a year of failures, President Biden will finally show the strength to stand up to the radical socialist activists who have captured control of the Democratic Party and begin restoring the American people’s trust in our system of government by nominating someone they can support.”
