Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has been the hot name rising up draft boards ahead of the first round just a few weeks from now, and last week was significant.
Coming off a performance at his pro day in Tuscaloosa which left scouts very impressed, momentum has started to heat up that Simpson could not only be a first-round selection, but also the second quarterback off the board with Fernando Mendoza locked in to the No. 1 slot.
Simpson reportedly attended a private workout for the New York Jets this weekend, who own two first-round selections both at No. 2 and at No. 16.
“Right now, the consensus is that Ty Simpson is the No. 2 [quarterback off the board],” Schefter said. “The real intriguing question to me is where does he fit in the first round. If the Jets don’t take him at No. 16, do the Browns take him at No. 24? Do the Dolphins take him at No. 30? Is there a team that trades back into the first round to get him? That may be the most likely scenario.”
Simpson is going to have to wait almost a month to find out his fate, but clearly he is doing himself favors throughout the draft process and continues to draw praise from scouts around the league.
When the draft starts on April 23, it seems Simpson is going to have a very strong chance at hearing his name called in the first round.
