Tuscaloosa Police, UAPD establish precinct on Strip

The University of Alabama coordinates closely with law enforcement agencies spanning the local, state and federal levels. Especially on gameday.

This week, the partnership between campus and local departments centralized further.

Authorities said the added headquarters is just one step to make the downtown Strip and surrounding area safer.

In addition to routine 24/7 patrols, UAPD and TPD are dedicating officers to a “Strip Detail” – additional officers who will patrol the Strip area, with a special emphasis on peak hours of business and activity.

It’s been reported that 30 to 40 officers will be on patrol during peak hours.

“The safety and well-being of our students and our community is our top priority,” said UA President Stuart R. Bell. “We are grateful for a close working partnership with our City colleagues to identify ways to continually enhance and augment safety strategies in the jointly patrolled areas, especially the Strip, and throughout our community.”

Thousands will flock to Tuscaloosa this Saturday for the spring game and leaders want to send a message to anyone with bad intentions.
