In a Monday speech on the Senate floor, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) outlined multiple ongoing crises gripping the nation which he believes to be a result of the Biden administration’s reversal from the policies of former President Donald Trump.
From the fall of Afghanistan, the flood of illegal migrants at the southern border, to rising inflation, Alabama’s junior senator contends that President Joe Biden’s policy objectives have sought to be in complete opposition to those of the former administration.
“But ‘not Trump’ is not a strategy. It’s not a policy stance,” said Tuberville. “It’s a reactionary and misguided posture that has plunged our nation into domestic and international disarray.”
Rather than correcting policies that he believes have ushered in numerous crises, Tuberville believes the president is unwilling to reverse course simply to be in opposition to Trump-era priorities, saying, “This is an uncomfortable and inconvenient fact for President Biden.”
“The president wants to run from the facts,” said Tuberville. “He’d rather hide behind them and point the fingers. The facts, for him, don’t fit. No matter the narrative being pushed, one thing remains: the facts. The facts don’t lie. The facts tell the story better than anyone.”
He added, “They are the impacts of decisions made and actions taken, whether we like it or not. But it doesn’t take long for anyone to see this fact: the decisions coming out of the White House have followed one overall thought, one guiding ideology.”
Tuberville pointed to the progressive agenda undertaken by the current administration, calling it the “woke transformation” of the fundamental principles which the nation was founded upon.
“It’s a vision of transformation. It’s a strategy of undoing everything done by the previous administration, even if those polices were successful,” Tuberville continued. “Since President Biden’s inauguration, every executive order, every regulatory rollback, and every message of so-called unity we were once promised has been in the spirit of doing the opposite of the previous administration, with an emphasis on the woke transformation of America’s founding principles.”
The senator added, “And Democrats don’t seem too interested in the facts about the consequences of this administration’s decisions, either.”
Tuberville took aim at the commander-in-chief’s decision to stray from a “conditions-based” withdrawal which was set in place by the Trump administration.
“His decision left our troops vulnerable and resulted in the death of 13 U.S. servicemembers – the average age of these service members was 22 years old,” he noted. “His decision has disrespected the sacrifices of more than 800,000 U.S. veterans who bravely served during the war on terror. His decision gave the Taliban their greatest victory to date. And made them one of the top ten most well-equipped militaries in the world, funded by the hardworking U.S. taxpayers of this country.”
The freshman senator went on to slam the Biden administration’s lax border policies, which he maintains have caused a surge of illegal immigration.
“From abroad to right here at our own southwest border, we’re witnessing the disastrous effects of the Biden presidency play out in epic proportions,” he said. “The numbers do not lie. In July and August, apprehensions at the southern border surpassed 200,000 each month. That’s quadruple the amount from this time last year. In fact, we’ve seen record-breaking numbers of illegal immigrants at our southwest border from the day President Biden was inaugurated. Over 1.3 million people have been apprehended trying to illegally cross our southwest border.”
From an economic standpoint, the senator noted the cost of rising inflation as Democrats are attempting to partake in an ambitious progressive spending agenda.
“Despite rising inflation and increasing prices, the president is still marching forward with his vision of a big government welfare state, enacted through the Democrats’ reckless tax and spend spree,” Tuberville said.
“President Biden’s America is one where our businesses and job creators pay for all,” he added. ‘That’s not ‘pay your fair share’ that’s wealth [re]distribution.”
Tuberville later pointed to his opposition to tax increases proposed by his Democrat colleagues which would accompany massive spending hikes.
“The programs laid out in the Democrats’ reckless tax and spend spree are a transparent effort at a woke transformation of the values and culture on which our country was built,” said Tuberville. “If that wasn’t bad enough, they’re going to raise taxes to pay for them – picking from a menu of more than 30 new taxes.”
He concluded, “It’s time for the president to face the facts and listen to the American people. Especially when the facts couldn’t be clearer.”
