During a call with reporters on Wednesday, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville spoke about the recent controversy surrounding leaked Signal messages from a group of government officials who were discussing Yemen-related topics.
Tuberville (R-Auburn) acknowledged the error but said that there are far more important issues to focus on in America today.
“Up here and in our national media, they just get ahold of one thing, and they think they can run with it and get people’s eye off the ball,” he said. “We got a lot of problems up here. Obviously, the reporter should have never been in the Signal group chat, but at the end of the day, that’s over with.”
The Senator stressed that there are far more important topics than the messaging controversy, including the need for tariffs to grow and strengthen the U.S. economy.

“We need to get back to saving our country through the tariffs. I will tell you this: there are a lot of people who are against tariffs. Tariffs are the only thing that is going to save our country,” explained Tuberville.
“We have to get manufacturing back in our country and build it in America, put people back to work. If we don’t do that, we’re going to lose our country as we know it. President Trump knows he’s got to cut back on spending and build the country’s manufacturing. The way to do that is through the reciprocal tariffs that he’s putting on, which will start in about two weeks.
“I think that will be a day that we’ll always remember as the start of the push to get our country back instead of giving it away.”
Tuberville also posted on social media about the messages, calling into question their significance.
“Calling these texts ‘attack plans’ is a joke,” he said. “They contain no specific targets or locations, no routes or communications plans, or weapons specifics. This is a high-level overview for senior leaders to prepare them for impending actions. Anyone calling this an ‘attack plan’ has never seen an attack plan.”
