Tuberville predicts GOP will retake House; Senate seats ‘toss-ups’

With about two weeks remaining until the Nov. 8 midterm elections, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) offered his analysis of the GOP’s chances to regain a legislative majority.

During a recent appearance on Alabama Public Television’s “Capitol Journal,” Tuberville said the upcoming elections were vital due to the host of issues facing the nation.

“You would hope we would win all of the elections out there that we’re supposed to win,” said Tuberville. “And if we do, then we’ve got an opportunity to have a majority in the Senate. We need to do that.

“And even my Democratic buddies, I tell them, ‘Hey, we need to do this to slow this down — what’s going on in our country.’ We can’t continue this downfall of crime, border opened, inflation, all the things that are going on right now. This has got to slow down. I mean, we’re just like a snowball rolling downhill picking up steam.”

Alabama’s junior senator noted he was working to help Senate candidates across the United States in their respective bids.

“Every day we’re raising money. As you said, we’re on recess,” he told host Todd Stacy. “We’re out raising money for candidates. We’ll travel throughout the country, including myself. I’m not in cycle, what we call an election year. So I’m out helping other people.”

Tuberville predicted Republicans would gain a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and identified the Senate elections in Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as being “toss-ups.”

“[I]t just depends on who votes … These are really the races that’ll determine the power of the Congress starting next year,” he said. “We’ll win the House — I’m saying between 20 and probably 35 seats. And that’s pretty good. You can’t have a one or two majority, you’ve got to have what we call a supermajority, which is 15 to 20 seats. We’ll take the House back.”

“But it’s so important we’re able to slow it down — what’s going on right now in Washington, D.C., and quit spending money. They’ll be able to slow it down, but we can stop it if we get the Senate. So hopefully people understand that.”
