U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate are hosting public hearings this week around the state on the Farm Bill.
Tuberville (R-Auburn), a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and Pate are providing an opportunity for those who will be impacted by the farm bill to offer input and voice their concerns.
“Agriculture is a vital part of our state’s economy, and it only makes sense that we have a seat at the table for important negotiations like the Farm Bill,” Tuberville said. “Earning a spot on the Senate AG Committee was important to me because Alabama hasn’t had a strong presence on this committee since the late 1990s.
“Our agriculture and rural communities deserve better than that, and it’s an honor to fight for their priorities and interests.”
The meetings dates and locations are:
Tuesday
- 9:15 a.m. – Coastal Alabama Community College, 1900 U.S. 31, Bay Minette
- Noon – Wiregrass Research & Extension Center, 167 Alabama 134, Headland
- 3 p.m. – Snead State Community College, 220 N Walnut St., Boaz
Wednesday
- 9:30 a.m. – Alabama Wildlife Federation, 3050 Lanark Road, Millbrook
The farm bill is a package of legislation passed every five years that has a tremendous impact on farming livelihoods, how food is grown, and what kind of foods are grown. Covering programs ranging from crop insurance for farmers to healthy food access for low-income families, from beginning farmer training to support for sustainable farming practices, the farm bill sets the stage for food and farm systems.
