Tuberville: ‘Folks, you are getting ready to see prices jump — They are coming after oil, they’re coming after coal’

Last week, President Joe Biden issued an executive order that would “pause” the leasing of federal lands and offshore waters for oil and natural gas production.

Such a move could have an impact on not just energy prices but Alabama’s economy, as well.

During an appearance on Mobile radio’s FM Talk 106.5 on Friday, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) warned about the repercussions of Biden’s action and touted a legislative effort, on which he partnered with U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), that would restore those leases.

“[C]ynthia Lummis — I’ve co-sponsored a bill with her,” he said. “We’re trying to get back leases for federal land for energy and minerals,” he said. “We put that one up and Cynthia — she is a good friend and going in with me. I think that was awesome. Folks, you are getting ready to see prices jump. They are coming after oil. They’re coming after coal. They’re coming after anything other than wind and solar. And then, they’re going to put billions into that. Last time, we figured out — Solyndra, all those folks went bankrupt.”

“They lost billions of taxpayer dollars,” Tuberville added. “Climate change is number one on their list. It ought to be the pandemic. For some reason, they want to save the world. You know, we’re all in for climate change. We’re for making things better every day. But this energy bill they’re pushing through is going to be a detriment to everybody because we’re going to have to lean on Saudi Arabia — you know, OPEC. It’s just unfortunate.”
