Tuberville agrees with Trump: FBI HQ should be in Huntsville

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is putting his support behind the idea of relocating the main FBI headquarters to Huntsville.

Saturday, former President Donald Trump said on Fox News “I’ll move anything to Alabama ‘cuz I love Alabama. If Alabama wants it, I’m all for it. No, I love Alabama.”

Trump was reacting to a proposal by U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to move the FBI headquarters out of the Hoover building in downtown Washington and into Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal.

Tuberville reacted to the story on Twitter, saying he agrees with Trump on the idea.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Jordan “wants to see the bureau based at Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal, a U.S. Army post where the FBI already has a growing campus that is home to more than 1,000 employees.

Jordan is pushing the idea because he believes the agency has been too politicized.

“Although Democrats view the proposal as nothing more than a dig at the FBI, Jordan argues investigators would be less likely to be infected by what he sees as liberal politics if the bureau were based in deep-red Alabama than alongside other government and national-security agencies in and around the nation’s capital.”

According to WHNT News 19, an FBI spokesperson believes a move isn’t feasible.

“The FBI’s facilities at Redstone Arsenal cannot accommodate the minimum of 8,500 personnel planned to occupy the new HQ suburban and downtown facilities,” the spokesperson said.

The FBI’s Huntsville operations include cybersecurity, forensics, hazardous devices, counterterrorism, training and research.
