Trump: a masterful general in the cultural wars as he takes on the NFL again

Conventional wisdom in the era of Trump is just out the window. Trump has the ability to take the media’s chosen narrative and destroy it with the world’s most powerful Twitter account. We can pretend that this whole story is “Trump vs. the NFL”, but it’s not.

Americans view this as “Trump/Americans/the military/the flag/the anthem/apple pie vs. The NFL”. Trump understands this, and that’s why he keeps bringing it up, but for some reason we are still being subjected to extremely weak takes from America’s greatest minds:

Why this matters:

Americans do not like people attacking the institution in the country, except politicians. They do not view this as a protest of social justice or police, in spite of the constant one-sided narrative being spun. Most Americans view this as a bunch of high-priced athletes whining and hating the military. When Trump comes out and states that he is defending America from those who hate it, he will win that round of the culture war.

The details:

— The original kneeling QB, Colin Kaepernick still can’t find an NFL job.

— When visiting Alabama in 2017, Trump referred to kneeling players as SOBs as the crowd cheered.

— The owners are attempting to end a multi-year controversy over kneeling by telling the players to “respect” the anthem or stay in the locker room.

— A veterans group tried to place a one-page ad in the Super Bowl program but the NFL rejected it because it was political in nature.
