It’s another huge weekend of college football across the South on Saturday, with major matchups both in and out of the Yellowhammer State.
The Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers each have pivotal, proving ground games on the slate.
While Alabama takes on the Tennessee Volunteers in a Third Saturday of October rivalry game with a cigar on the line, Auburn faces a must-win at home against the Missouri Tigers with a head coach who desperately needs a victory.
Outside of the state though, it’s a huge slate of SEC football, and here are the three non-Alabama or Auburn games you simply must be keeping an eye on.
#10 LSU @ #17 Vanderbilt
11:00 a.m. CST
If you told someone five years ago that the Vanderbilt Commodores would be favored over LSU in a regular season game, they’d think something went drastically wrong for the Tigers. And while LSU has struggled a bit in the last couple weeks, this becoming a big game says so much more about what head coach Clark Lea has built at Vanderbilt.
The Commodores are favored by a little less than a field goal, and it’s a huge game for each team looking to avoid their second loss and keep pace in the College Football Playoff race.
#14 Oklahoma @ South Carolina
11:45 a.m. CST
The Sooners are coming off their first loss of the season last week in a surprising domination at the hands of Texas and would love to avoid taking a second loss with still a trip to Alabama on the docket coming up in November, not to mention still having to face Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU and Missouri.
South Carolina has just about nothing outside of superstar quarterback LaNorris Sellers, and Sellers is going to try to carry them single handedly once again to a win. Coming off a competitive loss against LSU, the Gamecocks are less than a touchdown underdogs at home.
#5 Ole Miss @ #9 Georgia
2:30 p.m. CST
The Rebels avoided what would have been an absolutely disastrous home loss last week to Washington State to stay undefeated, and prior to that effort, they looked like one of the best teams in the SEC and the nation. If Ole Miss can find a way to go into Athens, they will be on a fast track both to their first SEC Championship game and to the College Football Playoff.
Standing in their way is a Bulldog team looking to avoid their second loss after surviving in Auburn last week. Georgia is favored by just over a touchdown in a bit of a surprising point spread, and Lane Kiffin is going to try to prove it wrong by grabbing what would be his second straight win over old friend Kirby Smart.
It should be another tremendous week of college football across the South!
