This tag is it: Drive Electric license plate available

A new campaign is charging up support from drivers across the state.

The Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition debuted an official Alabama license plate available for pre-commitments now.

With new manufacturers taking electric vehicles to market and it being easier than ever to make the switch, a lot of Alabamians are starting to ask good questions.

“Electric vehicle owners are already asked very often about their cars and most of them are very active in sharing the good experience they’ve had with their EVs,” said coalition President Michael Staley.

As a membership organization with five chapters in the state, the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition holds car showcases that look different every year, thanks in part to the new vehicle options available.

Staley said that now includes even “pickup trucks and Mercedes that are made in Alabama.”

The goal of the plate is to raise awareness about the practical, cost saving potential of driving electric in Alabama, the group said. Only 250 commitments are required for it to go into circulation and the coalition is making headway.

Anyone can also create a custom tag when it becomes available. Extra revenue generated goes directly back into the work of local chapters.

“Our partners in the Drive Electric Alabama initiative, the utilities, the auto dealers, the automakers, the people who are interested in educating the public about EVs, we find this to be a great way to promote interest in EVs,” Staley said.
