Gov. Kay Ivey has officially proclaimed June 2026 as Strong Families Month in Alabama, emphasizing the role stable households play in shaping children, communities and the state’s future.
“Strong families build a strong Alabama,” Ivey said in the proclamation announcement Friday. “Homes led by stable parents, a father and a mother, provide children with the structure and discipline necessary to succeed.”
Timed around Father’s Day on June 21, the proclamation also recognizes the influence fathers have in helping build strong families and communities across Alabama.
According to the governor’s office, children benefit from consistent parental involvement that supports both academic achievement and personal development. Government officials cited U.S. Census Bureau data showing nearly one-third of Alabama children live in single-parent or non-married-couple households, pointing to what the proclamation describes as the importance of stable parental leadership.
The governor’s office also pointed to research showing children raised in stable households are more likely to graduate from high school, achieve economic stability and avoid substance abuse.
In addition to the proclamation, Ivey’s office shared that several state initiatives are aimed at strengthening families, including expanded school choice through the CHOOSE Act, investments in early childhood education and improvements to Alabama’s foster care and child welfare systems.
Alabama has also partnered with First Lady Melania Trump on the Trump administration’s “A Home for Every Child” initiative, which focuses on helping children grow up in stable and supportive home environments.
The governor’s office said the proclamation is intended to recognize the importance of strong family structures and the lasting impact parents have on Alabama children and communities statewide.
