State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) urged groups, including the Business Council of Alabama and other entities, opposing legislative action on President Joe Biden’s federal vaccine mandate to “get to the table” to work toward a solution.
During his weekly appearance on Huntsville radio NewsTalk 770AM/92.5FM WVNN’s “The Dale Jackson Show,” the Morgan County Republican lawmaker warned opponents that if they did not work toward a solution, they might not like the solution from lawmakers.
Orr’s remarks come on the heels of Gov. Kay Ivey and House Speaker Mac McCutcheon (R-Monrovia) dismissing the merits and timing of legislative action.
“The attitude that I sensed yesterday is that they better get to the table,” Orr said. “In other words, there was enough concern among legislators that would tend to indicate, Dale, that there was a large momentum growing and building, almost by the day, as people were terminated and let go, that we had to act.”
“So that tells those that may be in opposition you better get in the room and you better get to the table to work something out,” he continued. “Otherwise, you may not like what happens. So, I believe that’s the counsel to those that would be opposed — that let’s see if we can’t work something out because there’s a lot of motivation among legislators to take some action. But we don’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and that’s the reason it would be prudent for others to be in the room and at the table to do what’s best for all concerned given the conditions that we’re under.”
