As part of her on-going effort to encourage young women to become involved in state government, State Rep. Susan DuBose (R-Hoover) announced on Tuesday that she is hosting the Second Annual “Girls’ Day At The Capitol” on December 17.
The event, co-sponsored by Miss Alabama Teen Ali Mims and open to girls from across the state in sixth to twelfth grade, will provide participants with the opportunity to interact with and ask questions to female elected officials and tour the Alabama Capitol Building and Governor’s Mansion.
“Though Alabama currently enjoys its second female governor, a female U.S. senator, and 24 female members of the Alabama Legislature, our state still ranks 47th nationally with just 18 percent of lawmakers being women,” DuBose said. “Women bring a unique perspective and a different set of issues, initiatives, and priorities to public service, and it is important for us to encourage future generations of young women to become involved in government and let their voices be heard.”

More than 200 girls took part in the inaugural “Girls’ Day at the Capitol” event, which was held last year.
Girls interested in participating and an accompanying adult have until 4:00 p.m. on December 10 to send an RSVP to [email protected] and reserve a spot on a first come, first served basis..
On the day of the event, participants will meet at the Alabama State House at 12:30 p.m. with the Capitol tour and session with female officeholders following at 1 p.m.. The group will also tour the Christmas decorations at the Alabama Governor’s Mansion from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and participate in a refreshment reception before taking a group photo.
