Alabama State Representative Joe Lovvorn (R-Auburn) visited Auburn University in recent days and presented a check to support the school’s Warrior Research Center (WRC) that focuses on improving the lives of American soldiers and first responders.
The University says the money will go towards supporting the “center’s research involving firefighters, soldiers and other first responders.”
Lovvorn is a firefighter himself; he currently serves as a battalion chief in the city of Auburn’s fire department.
According to Auburn, the WRC has in the past done a study on the effects of heat exposure that was of value to firefighters.
“Our world is changing, and these first responders must make high-stress decisions every day. Physical and mental capacity is central to what we do, so we appreciate the important work you are doing here in this lab,” remarked Lovvorn in a release.
Dr. JoEllen Sefton, the director of the Center, was on hand to receive the funds from Lovvorn. The pair were joined by a team of student researchers who work under Sefton.
Auburn’s campus is encompassed by Alabama House District 79, which Lovvorn has represented since 2016.
“I very much appreciate the work you are doing here,” Lovvorn said in conclusion. “It is my honor to help support your work.”
