State Rep. Arnold Mooney (R-Indian Springs) and State Board of Education member Kelly Mooney are endorsing State Sen. Jabo Waggoner (R-Vestavia Hills) for re-election, calling on Shelby County voters to keep the longtime senator in office at Tuesday’s primary.

In their endorsement, the Mooneys praised Waggoner’s record on taxes, public safety, and local schools.

“Jabo Waggoner is the kind of principled conservative leader we need in today’s world,” they said. “From helping address the Southwest Water issue to cutting taxes by $1.5 billion, keeping our neighborhoods safe, and investing in our local schools, Jabo has proven he is committed to getting results for Shelby County parents and children.”

“Shelby County needs to keep Jabo fighting for us. We are asking you to vote for Jabo Waggoner this Tuesday, May 19.”

Waggoner is serving his eighth term in the State Senate and holds the longest record of legislative service in Alabama history. First elected to the State House in 1966, he served there through 1983 before winning his Senate seat in 1990.

He served as Senate minority leader from 2002 to 2010 and as Senate majority leader from 2010 to 2014, and currently chairs the Senate Rules Committee and the Jefferson County Legislation Committee.

District 16 covers portions of Jefferson and Shelby counties, including parts of Hoover, Vestavia Hills, and Pelham.

Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
