SEC shatters record for most NCAA Tournament bids with 14 teams in the field

The Southeastern Conference has always been known for its dominance on the football gridiron, but the 2024-25 season it reached new heights on the basketball court as well.

Widely recognized across the sport as the best conference in the nation for the first time in recent memory, the unbelievable depth of the league was showcased in the selection of the NCAA Tournament field.

The SEC shattered the previous record of 11 teams — set by the Big East in 2011 — with a ridiculous 14 teams in the field of the 16 total teams within the conference. An unprecedented number highlighted by two No. 1 seeds and two No. 2 seeds, it truly was a banner season within the SEC.

Here are all 14 teams you can watch for with the tournament getting started this week.

  • No. 1 seed, South Region: Auburn Tigers
  • No. 1 seed, West Region: Florida Gators
  • No. 2 seed, East Region: Alabama Crimson Tide
  • No. 2 seed, Midwest Region: Tennessee Volunteers
  • No. 3 seed, Midwest Region: Kentucky Wildcats
  • No. 4 seed, South Region: Texas A&M Aggies
  • No. 6 seed, South Region: Ole Miss Rebels
  • No. 6 seed, West Region: Missouri Tigers
  • No. 8 seed, East Region: Mississippi State Bulldogs
  • No. 9 seed, West Region: Oklahoma Sooners
  • No. 9 seed, Midwest Region: Georgia Bulldogs
  • No. 10 seed, West Region: Arkansas Razorbacks
  • No. 10 seed, East Region: Vanderbilt Commodores
  • No. 11 seed, Midwest Region (play-in game): Texas Longhorns

Fans across the SEC will be watching with perhaps more intensity than they ever have on the basketball court, and the conference has held up their end of the bargain in giving them a reason to do so.
