Rusty Glover: I’m ready to serve as your lieutenant governor

The journey of being a state legislator who remains open to all Alabamians, makes my time in the legislature worthwhile. My time as a senator would mean little, if it was chalked up to merely sitting in an office.

Over the course of my time in office, it has been my joy and a privilege to meet people from all walks of life. I have met farmers, soldiers, teachers, professionals, welders, and a host of others.

When I think about experience, it is not enough to just have a resume.

Experience matters because, at no time in our state’s history, does policy and legislation matter more. It is experience with people, experience in the classroom, and experience with Alabama Senate rules that allows me a unique perspective on the office of lieutenant governor.

When I came to office, our government spending was out of control. Government offices were bloated with bureaucracy – our leaders stuck in the swamp of politics were rendered ineffective and incapable of making the decisions that were needed for the good of Alabama.

The officers of Alabama’s legislature were given state troopers at a time when the people of Alabama needed us to hire more troopers for improved road safety. That will not happen in the Glover administration. I will not take a state trooper off the road to drive me or anyone in my office.

As I said in a previous editorial – it’s not just what leaders do, it’s how leaders do it. The first duty of the lieutenant governor is to preside over the Senate. As the only candidate who has served in the Senate – my experience can work for all Alabamians as we seek to pass the kind of legislation which improves the lives of our families and our children’s future – with an eye towards honesty, old-fashioned common sense, and integrity service toward others.

Integrity demands that we candidly consider the great issues facing our state, and the potential for their wider impact. The integrity necessary for leadership calls the whole person to their duty.

As your next lieutenant governor, I will not promise what I can not deliver. I only ask that you consider my leadership and integrity when you vote on Tuesday, June 5th. It’s time to once again raise the standards of leadership in Alabama.

State Senator Rusty Glover is a Republican from Semmes.
