Roby: Obama believes he ‘rules the country,’ is above the law, above the Constitution

According to the White House, President Obama on Thursday plans to announce that he will go around Congress and act unilaterally to grant legal status and work permits to up to five million immigrants in the United States illegally.

Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL02) responded preemptively to the President’s announcement, saying that such an “ill-advised” action will break the immigration system further by inviting more illegals to cross the border.

A video of Roby’s remarks, followed by a transcript can be found below.

What I hope President Obama says tonight is that he will execute our laws faithfully like he swore an oath to do as president. Unfortunately, I think we’ll hear the opposite.

President Obama believes he is above the law — above our Constitution, and that he alone can rule this country. That’s not just wrong, it’s dangerous. And every American who believes in our way of life ought to be outraged.

Executive amnesty won’t fix our immigration system. It will break it further by inviting even more illegal immigrants to cross our borders, and poisoning any progress Congress might make toward real immigration reform.

Despite the president’s ill-advised decision, the American people need to know that Congress is working to make it right. We are looking at ways to stop the president before he does permanent damage to this country.

We are going to fund the government, but we are not going to endorse or enable this president’s unconstitutional actions.
