Coach Cadillac Williams, one of the most beloved players and coaches to come out of Auburn, joined Head Coach Hugh Freeze in announcing the Auburn Tigers’ 2023 football captains.
Williams began by addressing the room, telling the team one question that he is commonly asked.
“What’s your greatest accomplishment in sports?” said Williams.
The former running back said that the accomplishment didn’t come in the NFL, instead it occurred during his time at Auburn.
“It’s by guys sitting in these seats just like you many moons ago that voted for me to be a team captain.”
“There’s nothing more special then that,” said Williams. “I mean it’s two decades later and I still got a brick out there at Jordan Hare being an ’18 captain fellas. It never leaves you.”
It just means more at Auburn.
Take pride in being an Auburn man.

Williams asked the room a few questions in regard to the selection of captains.
“Who was that player that captured your guy’s heart?”
“Who was that player through tough times that’s there for you?”
“Who was that player that echoed Coach Freeze’s words of being selfish, being a team, being weak?”
Head Coach Hugh Freeze then answered those questions.
“The four elected captains for the ’23 Auburn football team are Elijah McCalister, Cam Stutts, Luke Deal, and Payton Thorne.”
Auburn will kickoff their season against the University of Massachusetts this weekend on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium beginning at 2:30 p.m. Central Time.
