Rep. Roby: ‘Please reach out to us’ if you have questions, frustrations or difficulties regarding CARES Act coronavirus response

Although there have been some hiccups in the early stages of the implementation of the federal government’s response to the coronavirus/COVID-19, known as the CARES Act, Rep. Martha Roby (R-Montgomery) says her office is available to lend support to individuals if needed.

During an interview with Huntsville radio WVNN’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” Roby discussed the federal efforts in Alabama’s Second Congressional District to combat the pandemic and the fallout, which is home to a significant portion of the state’s agribusiness as well as two major military installations, Maxwell Air Force Base and Fort Rucker.

However, Roby also offered praise to personnel still working in occupations deemed essential and perhaps putting themselves at risk for the sake of the public’s well being.

“[L]et me just take an opportunity to give thanks to our health care workers, our first responders, and all of the people involved in caring for those suffering from the coronavirus,” Roby said. “Also, all of those people who are in essential industries like groceries, our farmers, who are continuing to produce the food we eat, the transportation industry for moving medical supplies to hospitals and packages to doorsteps, and to our lenders. I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for the job that you are doing.”

Roby offered an update on her congressional district and urged those seeking what’s available or having difficulties with the CARES Act to be in touch with her office.

“I just had a call with the Secretary of Agriculture this morning,” she said. “Very helpful information coming out of all of these government agencies that allow us to pass that information along to our constituents. I’ve been in touch with both the leadership at both Maxwell Air Force Base and Fort Rucker to make sure that our installations here in Alabama have an open line of communication as always with our office. I’ve also been in communication with the governor, the bankers’ association, the hospital association, and many more who haven’t contacted us so we can help ensure that Alabamians receive the support that they need. Of course, you know that we have tremendous resources available and ways for people to communicate with us. And I would just take this opportunity in light of your question to encourage people who have questions or are frustrated, or are experiencing difficulties, particularly as it relates to the CARES Act to reach out to us. We want to hear from you.”

Roby suggested listeners visit a section on her website, https://roby.house.gov/covid-19-resources, which is dedicated to COVID-19/coronavirus resources and guidance.

“Please reach out to us,” she added. “We continue to work remotely and make ourselves available to our constituents in every way we can.”
